Mr. Koichi Takahashi studied international law at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. He entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1969.
Through his diplomatic career he spent many years in Central Europe. After having served in Japanese Embassies in Germany and Austria in 1970’s and 1980’s, he assumed such posts as Minister in Japanese Embassy in Germany (1992-95), Consul-General in Berlin (1995-97) and Ambassador in the Czech Republic (2002-5).
At the headquarters he was in charge of multilateral diplomacy as Director (1985-87) and Director-General (2001-2). He was seconded to Tokyo Metropolitan Government as Director-General of External Affairs (1997-99) and to the Ministry of Justice as Deputy Vice-Minister in charge of Immigration Bureau (1999-2001).
He retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2007 as Director-General of the Foreign Service Training Institute.
Mr. Takahashi works now as an advisor of Mitsui-Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd.
