back to members listJindřich Tomáš, MScfmr. Deputy Defense Minister, Czech Republic Jindřich Tomáš studied at the Ostrava Technical University and the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, later obtaining an MSc from Columbia University in NY.
Before leaving Czechoslovakia he was employed at the Metallurgical Research Institute and Technical University in Ostrava, and was a member of the State Energy Commission.
From 1969 he was instructor of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Academy of Aeronautics, Queens, NY; during the 1970s worked as a contractual research worker for Strategic Air Command; a principal in a consulting firm involved in analysis and planning of communications networks; and Assistant Vice President in the Capital Markets Division of CITIBANK, N.A., NY. In 1982 he became Vice President of E.F.Hutton & Co., NY, and from 1986, with Carroll, McEntee, McGinnley Inc., NY, Senior Consultant in the field of US Treasury and Government Agencies Securities trading and sales.
In 1991 Tomáš was made Financial Advisor to the Mayor of the City of Ostrava, Czech Republic, and from 1992 Principal Officer in the Central European Corporation, Inc. Ostrava. In September 1998 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, a post he held until December 2000. He has recently been appointed Special Advisor to the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Czech Parliament.
Jindřich Tomáš has served on a number of Governmental Committees, lectured widely on defense-related subjects, organized and led the Czech Contingent of young officers and NCOs of the Nijmegen March, trained as a pilot, and built his own aircraft.
